Agent Jorge Mendes announced that an undisclosed team from Chinese Super League (CSL) had offerred €300 million for Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo would earn €100m per season if he and the club accepts the deal.

The offer arrived just as Ronaldo’s agent and Real Madrid were having contract extensions for the club during the summer. It was initially rejected, stating that Ronaldo wants to stay in Madrid as long as possible.

Jorge Mendes’ decision to reveal this information is still not clear. It might be a ploy to strengthen Ronaldo’s value, as well as his loyalty to the club. But the point is, that some Chinese clubs are willing to shell out huge sums of money for one of the best players in the world. The quality of players moving to China have increased dramatically over the last few years.

Is this the start of a new era for football? Will Real Madrid, and Ronaldo consider a move to China? Perhaps the only option now is to speculate how everything will unfold in the future.
