FC Rostov 3-2 Bayern Munich: German champions stunned in their defeat against the Russians

Two months after the humbling 5-0 loss of Rostov, it was time for payback as Bayern Munich lost to the  Russian club 3-2 in a Champions League match.

Bayern had already qualified but will most likely finish second in Group D behind Atletico Madrid. Rostov were already eliminated, but can reach the Europa League.

Bayern’s  Douglas Costa delivered the opening goal in the first half,  then Rostov striker Sardar Azmoun showed magnificent skill and equalised eight minutes later, just before half-time.

Azmoun charged into the Bayern box and sent Jerome Boateng sprawling with a smart feint before hitting the ball low past Bayern goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, starting in place of the rested Manuel Neuer.

Rostov took the lead after  Boateng  Dmitry Poloz stepped up to hit the penalty low.Five minutes later, Bayern equalised again when Juan Bernat scored with a fierce angled shot.Noboa then scored  the winner during the  67th minute witha free kick.

Rostov clung on for the win, blocking shots and packing the box until the final whistle.

The defeat leaves the German champions in danger of facing one of the competition’s biggest clubs when the draw is made for the last 16.
